Founded in 2015, the showcase gives special needs individuals the opportunity to display their talents, passions, and abilities. Through the pandemic, the showcase has faced its share of challenges. Earlier last month, Dream Achiever had its first in-person performance of the year: a celebration of Lunar New Year. The pandemic put their live performances on hold for over a year, and the band had only recently resumed their in-person concerts in June 2021. Band manager and parent Anna Wang shared the experiences of the band members as they navigated online performances and the inability to interact with their audience, as well as the joy of returning to in-person performances. In December 2021, FCSN received a donation of five automated external defibrillators (AED) with accessories from ZOLL Medical Corporation. Intended to resuscitate victims of sudden cardiac arrest, an AED checks a victim’s heart rhythm through adhesive electrodes and administers an electric shock through the chest and into the heart. With these machines, FCSN will be able to provide trained staff with the proper equipment and guidance to treat a medical emergency. FCSN parent Jim Chiao had too many spare coins on his hands, yet sorting them himself was too time consuming and taking them to places where coins would be sorted for a fee was too troublesome.
