FCSN GYVers 2021- Alex Kumar

T In FCSN Voices’ 2021 GYVers campaign, we are proud to honor the graduating high school seniors who have contributed so much to the success of FCSN’s programs.

The Harker School graduate Alex Kumar volunteered with FCSN throughout his high school years. Here is an account of his experience volunteering at FCSN.

“I feel incredibly privileged to have had the opportunity to teach at such a wonderful organization as FCSN! For four years, I have taught with the Special Melodies choir/dance group at the FCSN South Bay center, and it has been one of the most formative and wonderful experiences I’ve had during high school. I began as a teacher, then rose to a lead teacher and, finally, a mentor and coordinator. I have learned so much in these four years about myself, about teaching and leadership, and about neurodiversity. I have formed incredible relationships with fellow teachers, leaders, and with students, and I cannot overstate the impact they have had on my growth. I am eternally grateful for the experience of teaching at FCSN, and I encourage any high schoolers and middle schoolers who are thinking of volunteering to do so– you will love every minute of it!”

In the future, Alex plans on attending New York University, where he will study theater. We thank him for his contributions and wish him luck in the future!
