The FCSN High School Student Council is a new branch of youth leadership within FCSN’s Young Leaders Committee, aimed at fostering community engagement and strengthening bonds among FCSN youth volunteers. Since its creation, the council has been actively organizing various events to provide opportunities for volunteers to connect and collaborate.
On November 26, 2023, the FCSN High School Student Council organized its first volunteer event — a Gingerbread House Building contest. At the event, volunteers were able to go head-to-head, pitting their creations up against one another. With no limit on what they could make, volunteers were able to express their creativity and create some elaborate gingerbread houses. After a brief round of judging, the contestants and FCSN Director of Volunteer Support & Young Leaders Committee Advisor Linmei Chiao jointly decided on a winner.
This event was not only a fun activity but also served as a rare opportunity for volunteers to gather together and share their experiences volunteering at FCSN. During this event, participants traded questions, advice, and suggestions for how to better serve the FCSN Community.
This event was one of the many events that the FCSN High School Student Council plans on organizing. For youth volunteers, who engage in different roles in the FCSN community such as tutors, instructors, and reporters, among many, there often are not many opportunities for them to work together or hang out. The FCSN High School Student Council aims to allow volunteers to come together and share their favorite activities at FCSN while developing new friendships and bonds. Through numerous casual events throughout the year, the Student Council’s mission is to strengthen bonds between the FCSN youth volunteer community.
The council is gearing up for its next big event in June — a Summer Carnival. At the event, volunteers will be able to try a variety of snacks, cultural foods, and drinks. Volunteers will be able to participate in a raffle, make friendship bracelets, go on a scavenger hunt, or work together to complete puzzles and trivia.
Future events will continue to focus on creating a sense of unity and collaboration among all the youth volunteers at FCSN. Through activities that promote teamwork, creativity, and cultural exchange, the council aims to build a stronger FCSN volunteer community.
The High School Student Council is also exploring ways to provide ongoing support and resources to youth volunteers. This includes a channel for questions and concerns, advice on how to improve the volunteer experience, and opportunities for volunteer development.
