The FCSN Coordinated Family Support (C.F.S.) Program was vendorized by RCEB and SARC in late 2023. The program provides support to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families, helping them continue to live together successfully at every step of the way.
The FCSN CFS began serving its first family in March 2024. Today, we assist nearly 30 families, each with their own unique stories, challenges, and dreams.
What makes the FCSN CFS special is our whole-family approach. Rather than focusing solely on the individual, we support the entire family. We recognize the dedication and commitment of family members in caring for their loved ones. Our program provides customized, coordinated support along with training and resources to ensure loved ones can continue living safely and happily at home. We believe that when every member of a family is supported, the entire household becomes stronger.
Every journey begins with a conversation: a warm, honest talk about what life looks like for the family right now, whatβs working, what isnβt, and what they dream of for the future. From there, we develop a personalized plan. More importantly, we stay with the family side by side, step by step. We donβt just give instructions; we show up, lend a hand, and help make things happen.
There were parents told us how much their son loved going on outings with them every weekend. But as they grew older, they found themselves running out of energy to keep up. They wanted him to keep enjoying those moments of joy and independence, but they just couldnβt do it all themselves anymore. Together, we found a caring personal assistant who now takes their son out every weekend, giving both the parents and their son the freedom they needed, one to rest, the other to explore.
Another young man, new to the country, spent most of his time at home. After negative experiences in community programs, he had lost trust in people outside his family. Our team started small with simple lessons, brief community visits, and activities that matched his interests. Gradually, he began to open up again. Today, he has a better relationship with his family, and he is enrolled in a supported employment program, working toward his dream job.
One family had spent years trying to help their adult son find a meaningful career, but the path always seemed uncertain. Our CFS team stepped in, helping them refocus, identify steps, and connect with the right resources. For the first time, the family felt they werenβt alone in navigating the system because they had partners walking with them.
Then there was a family who hadnβt been able to visit their elderly parents overseas for years. Their son couldnβt tolerate flying due to sensory and behavioral challenges, and they didnβt have anyone who could care for him while they were away. Our team worked tirelessly to find and interview out-of-home respite providers who could meet his needs. Eventually, they found the right fit, and they have now booked their flights to travel overseas at the end of this year, giving them peace of mind that knowing their son will be safe, happy, and cared for.
In another case, a family felt powerless after being treated unfairly by their school district. They were frustrated, confused, and exhausted. The CFS team not only stood by them emotionally but also reached out to a client rights advocate and special education attorneys to make sure their voices were heard. The parents told us later that just knowing someone believed in them made all the difference.
Every one of these stories reminds us why CFS exists: to remind families that they donβt have to walk this road alone. Every family deserves understanding, respect, and support. Every individual deserves a life filled with meaning, dignity, and belonging.
As the saying, βIt takes a village to raise a child.β For families raising loved ones with developmental disabilities, that village doesnβt disappear when childhood ends and it becomes even more important. CFS is proud to be part of that village helping families build bridges, find hope, and create homes filled with safety, laughter, and love. Our mission is to support individuals and their families to live fully, confidently, and independently. Together, we build stronger families, brighter futures, and communities where everyone can thrive.
