FCSN Reopening, A New Norm

Diana Ko, EBADP Program Coordinator

When FCSN closed doors on March 18, 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a scramble to adjust to remote learning. Classes went online, with a pause in activities and services. As a new Day Program coordinator, I struggled with designing the virtual classes and teaching my staff how to use devices for teaching. It was also hard to keep up and help with the clients’ same routine as in person. To keep the clients busy and make them feel like virtual classes were the same as in-person classes, we have been doing activities the same as in person.

It has been a year and a half of virtual classes and not seeing each other, and our lovely clients started their first day returning in-person on July 17, 2021. We have been waiting for the moment, especially since there have been so many date changes.

To welcome the students back to the center, our staff have been busy decorating the classroom and entrance the week ago to make the place fantastic and make them feel at home. They have put up signs and banners, which makes everything stand out.

Even though we practice social distancing and wear masks, the staff and the clients will be excited to see each other and do fun things together. We are so pleased to see our lovely clients with smiling faces to communicate with each other.  Having a year away from each other might’ve been lonely, but the important thing is that we are here for one another.
