Friends of Children with Special Needs (FCSN) proudly participated in the 2026 Fremont Fourth of July Parade, joining the community in celebrating the 250th Anniversary of the United States while also marking a very special milestone of our own: FCSN’s 30th Anniversary. Since its founding in 1996, FCSN has been dedicated to empowering individuals with special needs and their families through programs, advocacy, and community engagement. 

In preparation for this memorable event, FCSN launched a broad outreach effort. In addition to weekly announcements sent to all FCSN families, program directors personally invited students and families throughout the organization to participate. The response was overwhelming.

More than 300 FCSN participants, family members, staff, volunteers, and supporters marched together, making FCSN by far the largest and most spirited group in the parade. Our marchers created a striking display of unity and pride, with children from FCSN’s youth programs dressed in white, adult program participants dressed in blue, and family members dressed in red, forming a patriotic tribute to both our country and our community.

A special highlight was the participation of the FCSN Boy Scouts, coordinated by Kelly, who proudly carried large American flags at the front of the group. To add even more excitement, 300 handheld flags were distributed so that every marcher could wave a flag as they proceeded down the parade route.

The energy was contagious. As FCSN marched by, spectators responded with enthusiastic cheers and thunderous applause. The crowd’s excitement grew even stronger as the Dream Achievers performed popular dance music from the FCSN float. Participants and spectators alike danced, sang along, and celebrated together, creating an atmosphere of joy, inclusion, and community spirit.

The beautiful weather provided the perfect backdrop for the festivities and helped make the day even more enjoyable. At the conclusion of the parade, participants were welcomed with a refreshing treat. Special thanks go to Raindrops Café for generously providing 300 cups of delicious boba tea, giving everyone a chance to relax and celebrate after the march.

For many participants and families, the event was more than just a parade. It was a celebration of the remarkable journey FCSN has taken over the past three decades. From a small parent-led organization founded in 1996 to a nationally recognized nonprofit serving individuals with special needs across the Bay Area, FCSN’s growth has been made possible by the dedication of our families, volunteers, staff, donors, and community partners. 

Many participants shared that this was the best Fourth of July Parade they had ever experienced. The day showcased not only America’s rich history and Fremont’s vibrant community spirit, but also the strength, resilience, and accomplishments of the FCSN family.

As FCSN celebrates its 30th Anniversary, the parade served as a powerful reminder of our mission and the lives touched through our programs. Together, we celebrated our past, honored our present, and looked ahead to a future filled with even greater opportunities for individuals with special needs and their families.
