Three Lynbrook High Students Donate $5000 to FCSN Over The Summer

Senior Angela Jiao, co-founder and president of SVSY; junior Andrew Yuan, co-founder and vice president; and senior Raymond Shao, the Director of Curriculum, along with several other instructors, garnered the donation money through tuition fees for their virtual science lessons held over the summer of 2021. They hope that the money from the donation will enable FCSN to provide a more extensive array of materials for their science department, such as computers or chemistry kits. Through this greater availability of resources, they hope that special needs students can more thoroughly explore STEM subjects and discover their interests. Anna Wang is one of the co-founders of FCSN, inspired and driven by the autism diagnosis of her son, Lawrence. During the 25 years since a group of parents came together, Anna has helped create many programs for children, adults, and families, fostered a sense of community, and been an outspoken advocate for the rights of special needs individuals. Through countless challenges, Anna has stayed motivated with the mantra of never giving up, always having hope, and trusting that it would bring happiness. โ€œWelcome to Friends Coffee and Tea, how can I help you today?โ€ FCSN trainee greets customers at the checkout counter of Friends Coffee and Tea. Since the pandemic began, Friends Coffee and Tea has been closed for over a year. Recently, it has been able to be reopened, resuming on-the-job training opportunities for special needs individuals. FCSN youth volunteer Sara Kuang shares her experience teaching Matthew karaoke. Despite awkward moments during the first session, Sara quickly pivoted and tailored the classes to fit Matthew’s interests.
